Our October 2006 mission trip took place from October 2nd through October 13th, 2006. This group of 8 had the 3 youngest team members that have ever gone on one of our trips.

Our team members came from Maine and Missouri but we all met up in Florida where we flew into Haiti with Missionary Flights International. For 6 of our team members, this was their first trip to Haiti.

Our primary purpose on this trip was to add new children and to update many of the children in the Sponsorship Program as well as to add children from two new schools - Phaeton and Danda. It was a very ambitious schedule and we were able to interview, measure and photograph 615 children on this trip - the most we have ever done on one trip!

Before Sabrina started to measure the children, she drew a "yardstick" on the post, marking out the height measurements in 1/2" increments, starting at 36" and working up.
Normally, 36" is as low as we need to go when we start making these marks on the post but occasionally we have a little one who doesn't even reach the 36" mark, as you can see in this photo of little Wadeline. (right)

Gina was in charge of getting weights on all the children, like this little guy from the 5 year old class in the Center of Protection.

After being weighed and measured, the little ones needed help to put their shoes back on. Our three young team members were a great help with this job! This time it was Maggie's turn. (right)
Then it's time for their photo, which can often be the most difficult part of the process. Here we see Holly being assisted by Jeneen and Katie, trying to get a smile out of this little cutie. (left)

The final step in the process is the most fun for the kids - getting their rewards! Here we see little Rose-Carty with her rewards for doing a great job being processed. (right)
This process had to be repeated many times over in Terrier Rouge and then again in Paulette, Phaeton and Danda.

Of course, getting to Danda presented some interesting challenges!

And while the road to Paulette is much easier than the road to Danda, and its beautiful scenery reminds us of photos of Africa....

...Paulette has some very interesting challenges of its own! (Yes, that really is a tarantula on the end of that stick!)

Sometimes after all our adventures and full days of processing children, the team members got a bit goofy! (Sorry, Jeneen and Holly!)
Even though our work schedule was VERY full, we still found some time to visit with the children in His House. They were very excited to show us their new beds. These bunk bed mattresses had been donated by a very generous benefactor to whom the children are very grateful!
Of course, we also had to have some fun with the kids, too! Here's Gina playing a hand clapping game with Dinae.

And Jeneen and Holly had a great time playing Limbo!

How low can you go, Carolyn?

Of course, it's not all fun and games at His House. With 12 children to care for, everyone pitches in and does their part. Here we see Novalie doing some ironing.

And there's always studying to do. Here's older sister, Rose-Kettie, helping younger sister, Madiolene, study her lesson.

Even though the security situation in Haiti has improved greatly since the elections earlier this year, it was still very reassuring having the UN troops in the area.

We even met the man who is the head of UN security in the Northeast Department of Haiti. He will be a very good friend for us to have during our future trips to Haiti!
But, as always, one of the most special parts of any of our trips is making new friends and strengthening our relationships with our brothers and sisters in Haiti.

Holly with one of her sponsored children, Chinaika.

Katie and her new sponsored child, Andjeska.
Sabrina also had her chance to bond with little Andjeska!

Jamie and her new sponsored boy, Rooderkens.
Because the team members from Maine and from Missouri had never actually met in person before this trip, there was a lot of bonding even among the team members themselves!

Carolyn and Jeneen "bonding"!
All in all, it was a great trip. We'll leave you here with some of our favorite photos from this trip.
