Ouvray, Haiti
In 2005, Pastor Apollon Noel of L'eglise Baptiste in Terrier Rouge, Haiti, began a new work in an area called Ouvray, Haiti. Ouvray (pop. approximately 800) is located about 3 miles from Terrier Rouge, down a "road" which looks more like a donkey track than something made for vehicle traffic.

Pastor Noel began this new work for approximately 100 believers in this area who were traveling into Terrier Rouge to attend church on Communion Sunday each month. The journey is too difficult for them to make every week so Pastor Noel is helping them to begin their own church in their area. They have completed the shell of their new building (with the help of a work team from Fayette, Maine) which will be used for both the church and the school. Because of all the assistance they have received from the believers in the state of Maine, Pastor Noel has named this new church "The Baptist Church of Maine".
Pastor Noel started the Center of Protection in Ouvray in January of 2006 which has an enrollment of approximately 75 children. There are plans to add the first level of Primary School in September of 2006.

As is the case with most schools in Haiti, a very important part of each school day is the meal the children are served before they go home for the day.

In Ouvray, this meal usually consists of rice and beans or, sometimes, rice and chicken. The children all receive a very generous portion, none of which goes to waste!
There are currently 23 children from the school in Ouvray in our Sponsorship Program.
Below is a photo of some of the believers in Ouvray who are working for the church and the Center of Protection. From left to right they are, Luc Belizaire, who leads the singing for the church meetings; Mme. Carlo Jean, who cooks for the school children; another woman who is the mother of M. Belius Belizaire; M. Belius Belizaire who is the deacon who is overseeing this new work in Ouvray, under the oversight of Pastor Noel; Mme. Belizaire, who is the wife M. Belizaire; and Pastor Noel.
If you are interested in helping to meet some of the financial needs of this new church and would like to donate towards their on-going construction costs, please contact us.
